2017 Cowboy Clinic

This year’s Cowboy Clinic will be held on August 9th through the 13th at our sister ranch, Anchor Ranch, in Alpine Texas. Up to a maximum of six (6) riders can be accommodated. Non-riders who would like to accompany their riding partners are also welcome as long as they share the same bed! Come and see the treasures that Southwest Texas has to offer.

Joel Nelson will be your guide throughout your Texas experience.

Joel is highly respected in the world of cowboy poetry and recitation. He has appeared in many cowboy poetry festivals, including the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering which he co-founded. His CD “Breaker in the Pen” (2000) was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2009, Joel was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He was also the poet-in-residence at Rothbury, Northumberland in England. A Vietnam veteran and a former custom saddle maker, Joel is an excellent horse trainer and has worked on some of the largest cattle operation in the country. He lives with his wife, Sylvia, on the Anchor Ranch, outside of Alpine and raises Corriente and Angus cattle.
